Puppy Playdates, Etsy Front Page , Magazines, Oh my!!!

Life sure has been fun and exciting over the last few days. I have been anxiously waiting for the fall issue of Modern Dog Magazine to hit newsstands and it is finally here. When I first opened Jennie B. Goode Collars in January, I never would have imagined that I would have a collar featured in a magazine. It was so exciting to see my Holy Cow Dog Collar in the Terrific tripod photo spread.Miss Sophia insists that it wasn’t luck but due to the fact that she just happens to be one of the cutest full figured dog models around. She was a little jealous that they did not ask her to model the collar in the magazine but I gave her some treats and she got over it really quick.

For the long weekend we came up to Raleigh to visit family and friends and of course Miss Sophia came with us. She has had a very action packed weekend. On Friday she had a breakfast play date with new friends, Holly and Pirate.

On Saturday she played in the leaves with her old buddy Scout( he is my niece’s cocker spaniel that lived with us for awhile). To top it all off she then went over to her new friend Bob’s and played with him for hours. The poor girl was so tired come Sunday that she actually slept from noon until 8pm.

My husband is a huge college football fan so we attended the season opener for the East Carolina Pirates on Sunday afternoon. It was as hot as could be and when I wasn’t sure how I would manage to make it through the entire game I checked my email from my phone and was surprised to find out that my Pumpkin Patch Plaid Leash had made it to the front page of Etsy. I was so excited that I forgot how hot and miserable I had been.

It may be pretty tough getting back to regular life on Tuesday but then again with Miss Sophia around nothing is ever regular.

Here are the latest additions to the shop

Happy National Dog Day!

It is the Human Condition to love.
It is Love that Changes the Human Condition.
It is the Love of one Human that can Change a Nation.
It is that Love which empowers one Nation, to save man's best friend.
~ Colleen Paige

National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

Pretty much everyday in our house is National Dog Day because Miss Sophia just happens to demand it. To step it up a notch today, I think she deserves a nice bowl of yogurt with some nice plump blueberries. And of course to honor the other great dogs out there, we will pick a shelter or rescue to make a donation to.

How will you be celebrating National Dog Day?

JBG Makeover & Giveaway

As many of you have already noticed Jennie B. Goode Collars has undergone a makeover and I love it! Once I found out that two of my collars had made it into a Modern Dog Magazine photo shoot and then had been chosen to be featured in the fall issue of the magazine, I just knew JBG needed something a little more special so I had a website created.

I knew exactly what I wanted and who to hire to do the job. Marii from Pink Studios is really talented and was so much fun to work with. I told her the feel I was going for and she made it happen. If she never sees another email from me in her life I am sure that will be too soon. I can be a real pain when it comes to how I have to get what I want and she worked with me without even typing a bad word. What she may have been thinking in her head may be a different story .

Not only did she do an amazing job on my website http://www.jenniebgoode.com/ but she did an equally amazing job at updating my Etsy Shop and Cargo Shop.

I had a really hard time figuring what to write in the ABOUT section of the website. As you can see from my posts I lack all the great punctuation and grammar skills that all the great writer’s posses so I was on a mission the find a creative mind to whip me up something delightful. I knew from the start who I really wanted to do the job and I am so grateful that she was more than willing to do it for me. Thank you Renee!!!!!!! I really love it!

Stop by their blog  http://twolittlecavaliers.blogspot.com/2010/08/dog-cat-collar-review-and-giveaway-open.html to check out the details on how to win a JBG collar. Contest ends Sept.1st

No post would be complete without a picture or two or three or four of my sweet Sophia. Here are some pictures from our PJ party.

To sweeten the pot even more , the fabric was on sale. Fabric + Sale  makes for a very happy Jennie! Needless to say I couldn't wait to get home and make my Minnie. Miss Sophia looks so cute in it I think she may need the matching harness.

All Natural Deer Antler Chews

I am always on the lookout for things to keep Miss Sophia out of trouble while she is awake and not sprawled out, snoring somewhere. This little Diva has plenty of toys but non interest her more than stealing flip flops and hijacking empty toilet paper rolls from the garbage can.Bulldogs are known for being heavy chewers so anything we give our girl has to be tough and her deer antler shed has officially passed with flying colors. I think the grunts and snorts in this video say it all.

Deer Antlers for Dogs Benefits
• A 100% natural, mineral rich, long lasting dog chew.
• Don't chip or splinter when they are being used by even the most aggressive chewing dogs.
• A dog's chewing action grinds Deer Antlers down slowly providing long-lasting enjoyment and helping to keep teeth and gums healthy.
• A renewable resource collected from naturally shed wild deer antlers.
• Odorless and non staining
There are many places to order deer antler chews online but we got Sophia’s from www.deerantlersforpups.com
Her prices were very reasonable compared to other online sellers and shipping was super fast.

Not " just a dog" and some great finds for your fur babies.

I came across this video on a blog last week and shared it on Facebook but wanted to share it here for those that missed it. It makes me miss my Mr. Cosmo that died last year from cancer. He definitely was not “Just a Dog”.

Sweet Mr. Cosmo
Etsy has so many great shops and products for our pets and here are some great ones I came across this week.

This 100% natural, therapeutic dog shampoo bar is formulated with oatmeal to calm and soothe itchy, dry skin. Cocoa butter conditions the coat, making it smooth and shiny! The bar is scented with Tea Tree, Peppermint, and Lemongrass essential oils to deter pesky insects from your dog's fur. Tea Tree oil also has beneficial medical properties, including antiseptic and antifungal action.

Help the Gulf Coast & Shop at the Same Time

I know so many of us have been wondering what we can do to help out with the Gulf Coast oil spill. Well, if you love to shop and love to do good deeds, then I have the shop for you. Etsians are always quick to create a shop whenever there is a need and as usual they have not disappointed.

This is a collective Etsy shop to help the gulf coast recover from the massive BP oil spill. Etsy sellers have donated their items so that 100% of the proceeds can be given to charity.

100% of the proceeds (after Etsy & Paypal fees) will be donated to charities helping with the Gulf Coast recovery effort.

Here are just a few of the more than 300 items available in this shop

New Additions

It is hard to believe that I have already been home from Canada for over a week now. I wasted no time in adding new items to Jennie B. Goode Collars. Making leashes available in my shop had always been something I wanted to do, but had not really gotten around to, until I filled a wholesale order for  a collar shop in Japan, that included leashes. I could kick myself for not always carrying them. Miss Sophia thinks that she is the cat’s meow, now that she can strut around in her matching leash and collar sets. So far I have added three matching sets (they do not have to be purchased together) and I will be adding more in the near future.

Once I added leashes I figured why stop there. Step in harnesses will also be available at Jennie B. Goode Collars soon! Here is a sneak peak.

Don't let her fool you. This is her happy face.

Oh Canada

I am officially starting on my second week in Canada and I miss my Hubby and Miss Sophia terribly. The first week went rather smoothly other than the fact that they have now cancelled my father’s heart bypass surgery TWO times. Stinkin Canadian healthcare system. I used to think that Canadians had such amazing healthcare but I guess times have changed. Truth be told, I would like to karate chop it in the knee caps if it had some. Where is that Kung fu panda when you need him?

Any who, we are keeping our fingers crossed that they do not cancel his next surgery date this coming Tuesday. Mother Nature must be pretty angry about the situation too as she has gone and gotten her panties in a knot and is punishing all of Alberta with winter like weather. I am not even exaggerating. Some places only two hours away from where I am got snow today and lots of it. Really I shouldn’t complain as it gave me a good excuse to go shopping at the most amazing mall in the world  West Edmonton Mall to get something warm to wear. ( if you have some time click on the link to see Wikipedia's break down of one of the coolest malls you will ever see)

All in all, other than missing Greg and Miss Sophia more than I ever imagined (thank goodness for Skype), it has been nice to spend so much time with my family and friends. I am lucky that I was able to pack Jennie B. Goode Collars up and bring the shop with me as I could be here for at least two more weeks.

So due to the fact that I am here because my Daddy has a sick wittle heart I decided to search out some cute heart items on Etsy and share them with you.

Life has been interesting lately.

The last couple of weeks have been pretty interesting to say the least. Some of it has been good news and some not so good. Let’s start off with the bad so that we can end off with a positive note.

We found out that my Dad has to have quadruple bypass surgery on the 18th. As a matter of fact I am writing this post while on my third and last flight home to Canada. The news came as a huge shock as my Pops is not over weight, not a smoker or drinker and seemed to be in good health. I guess this is one of those situations where you just have to say “poop happens”. If you ask me I think he just missed me soooo much that it made his heart sick. Can you blame the guy???? I am the coolest daughter in the whole wide world ( well at least that is what I tell myself) .

This is my favorite picture of my Daddy and I

There was no question as to whether I would fly home to be with my family. The only real question was what to do with Jennie B. Goode Collars while I am out of the country for two weeks. Have no fear dedicated Jennie B. Goode fans, the shop is staying open and all of my supplies are comfortably riding in the cargo hold of the plane. My Momma has a good sewing machine so I figured there was no reason not to bring the show on the road.

Now that we got the bad news out of the way let’s move on to the fun and exciting news. Most of my Facebook fans have already heard me go on and on about this but hey, stuff like this doesn’t happen every day. I will start at the beginning. My husband is a HUGE Howard Stern fan and as some of you may know Howard and his wife Beth have a bulldog named Bianca. My hubby had been asking me to make a collar for Bianca and send it to the Howard Stern show. After much pressure I made one and sent it off to the show with a little note and a fortune cookie cat nip toy for their cat, Apple.

Time went by and I never really thought much of it until I went to the mailbox one day and low and behold there was an envelope addressed to me from Beth Stern. Inside were two hand written notes .To say that I was excited is an understatement. My husband was even more excited than me.This of course made more than my day. I had heard that Beth was a sweet girl but I was really surprised that she took the time to write me a thank you note. It really meant a lot to me.

Now the story does not end here but it would have if not for one of my Facebook friends who runs a shop called Lil Yorkie Fru Fru .I woke up one morning last week to a message on my page saying “I think Beth Stern’s dog is wearing your collar on the Today Show”. I went into frenzy mode as the show was already over and I was dying to see if it really was my collar. I eventually found it on You Tube.

Sure enough, Bianca was wearing my Sprinkled Chocolate dog collar! I jumped around and squealed like a little girl for a good ten minutes. I am pretty sure that my Hubby was squealing inside too. I hate to be one of those star struck people but it is pretty cool to think that Howard and Beth Stern’s dog is wearing something I made.

Beth has written a book filled with dog care tips called Oh My Dog so she has been on a press tour promoting it. After seeing that she had Bianca with her on the Today show we had been keeping our eyes peeled for more appearances . Well surprise surprise!!!!! Guess who is wearing the collar again and this time on Regis and Kelly.

Not only was I thrilled to see Bianca wearing the collar again but the segment was hilarious. You have to love the dog that uses the set as its restroom. Too funny.

So all in all I think it is safe to say that Beth really likes the collar. There are no words that can describe how great I feel about my business when someone who can afford the best of the best chose to have their dog wear my collar on TV. I am so thankful for all of the love and support I have had since I decided to start Jennie B. Goode Collars and I appreciate every single one of you!

One more hour until we land ,and even though I already miss my husband and Miss Sophia, I can’t wait to see my family.

Alter Ego

An alter ego (Latin, "the other I") is a second self, a second personality or persona within a person, who is often oblivious to the persona's actions. It was coined in the early nineteenth century when dissociative identity disorder was first described by psychologists.[1] A person with an alter ego is said to lead a double life.

If I had an alter ego , this would be it.I have always been obsessed with retro pin up girls and tattoos. If tattoos were erasable, I would spend at least one day a week covered in them and dressed up Rockabilly style. Well let me clarify. When I say covered, I do not mean covered like that tattooed freak, Jesse James had an affair with. I draw the line when it comes to inking the face and one may want to be careful as to the message that their tattoos are giving off.

Tattoos are a hate or love kind of thing and let’s just say that neither my hubby nor my parents are big fans. Good thing I never asked any of their permission before I got mine. With that said I guess that probably rules out me getting anymore anytime soon so I guess I will just have to live vicariously through others. Thank goodness for the internet and Kat Von D’s show on A&E.

Of course I could not resist finding some tattoo themed Etsy items.

Custom Vintage Tattoo Pet Small xs Dog Cat Id Tag
Owlways Postcard Pack

Tatto Flower Pot

Sock Monkey with Mom Tattoo

Amor Tattoo Syle Pendant

Art Print ~ The Tattoed Lady

What would your alter ego be like????
